Pharmacy residency

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at UF Health The Villages Hospital is an ASHP-pre-accredited program emphasizing clinical pharmacy practice and its relationship to the total health system. The residency provides a framework for the practitioner to develop the skills necessary for providing pharmaceutical care in a variety of different health care settings.

Program

There are two pharmacy resident positions available to eligible candidates at UF Health The Villages® Hospital. This residency offers five required rotations and provides ample time for elective rotations in a variety of settings.

Longitudinal Experiences

While a resident at UF Health Central Florida Hospitals, each resident will:

  • Staff one evening per month (3pm-7pm), every third weekend, and assigned holidays (one major and one minor)
  • Conduct a Medication Use Evaluation
  • Complete and present a P&T Monograph
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Director of Pharmacy and other preceptors
  • Assist in precepting undergraduate Pharm.D. students
  • Present a project at the Florida Residency Conference
  • Make two formal, ACPE-accredited presentations on a therapeutic controversy to the department
  • Participate in Code Blue response services
  • Complete a research project. Project must receive prior approval and must be in publishable form upon completion of the residency
  • Pharmacokinetic consults – vancomycin and aminoglycosides
  • Participate on a Pharmacy Department Committee
  • UF College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate

Stipend

The resident receives a $48,000 stipend paid by UF Health Central Florida Hospitals.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Academic: The applicant must have a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited school or college or pharmacy
  • Professional License: All residents must be eligible for Florida licensure. Selected and matched residents must be licensed by August 1st.
  • Interview: An on-site or virtual interview is required. On-site interviews are conducted during the month of February
  • Non-Resident Alien Applicants: To be considered for employment, you must presently have an employment authorization that is valid throughout the residency period. We do not sponsor international visas.

  • Interested applicants must register for the Resident Matching Program
  • Submit all applications through PhORCAS.
  • Final deadline for complete applications is December 31, 2022

  • Letter of Intent
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Standardized Reference Forms supplied by PhORCAS from three (3) professional sources

After completed applications have been reviewed, the residency selection committee will notify selected applicants to arrange an on-site interview. Official start date for the residency: July 3, 2023.
